2018 Southern Plains Wildfire Forum

Thank you to all of our speakers and participants for attending the forum and for creating lively discussions! Also, we would like to thank both the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association for sponsoring our breaks and the Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma for sponsoring lunch.

The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP), in collaboration with the USDA Southern Plains Climate Hub and the Redlands Community College, hosted the 2018 Southern Plains Wildfire Forum on February 13, 2018 in Beaver, OK. This meeting focused on the recent wildfire events in 2016 and 2017 in portions of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. The day consisted of both presentations and panel discussions covering topics including common weather conditions associated with wildfire, impacts and recovery perspectives, and management strategies, such as prescribed fire, to reduce future wildfire risk.

The forum presentations are provided below.
